Proportion of elementary school pupils’ anthropometric characteristics with dimensions of classroom furniture in Isfahan, Iran

چکیده

BACKGROUND This study is aimed to examine the appropriacy of school furniture to Iranian pupils' anthropometric features. METHODS The participants in this cross-sectional study were 493 boys and 489 girls with the age-range of 7 to 12 years who were selected through a multistage random cluster sampling procedure. Age, weight, height, and anthropometric dimensions were determined. RESULTS This study indicates that there is a significant difference between the minimum and maximum acceptable dimensions and those of the available furniture (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS In designing suitable furniture for pupils the anthropometric differences of age and gender must be taken into account.
